OCR and Loading
We’re down to 417GB free on the SAN, so we’ll need to have answers on some of this today to be able to start moving and burning files.
On Our OCR
Matt’s out this week, so I’ve been checking the processes and starting the OCR machines as needed. I’m not sure what his normal method is, but that’s all I know for now. I spoke to Mark and Randall about different options for speeding up the OCR process, including moving the machines (or one of them) to the server room so that it doesn’t have to process over our slow switch.
The issue there is that we need access to the machines to set the job files (which would be tedious to automate because of their format and requirements), but that means we would need to be able to term into the machines in the server room. Another option would be upgrading the switch between the OCR machine and the server room, but the copibooks are more of an issue for that, and we’re still checking on cost for that upgrade.
On Loading
I’m not sure how Matt normally has things organized for loading, so I think I’m probably making a bit of a mess for him, but a small mess is better than letting the files sit and become a big mess. Right now, our loading folder has many subfolders. I’ve collapsed these into:
- Error
- G (not sure what this is, but it has “Batch 2″, “Batch 3″, and “Chinese Reloads” under it)
- Loading (with “FUNGLODE” as a subfolder)
- MHM-Loading
- Rush
I’m loading the files in “Loading” (including the subfolder “FUNGLODE”) and “MHM-Loading” from different machines right now. The already loaded materials are in the “Archive” folder and the error files are in the error folder under “Load”. Thus:
Archive — all files to be burnt and to go to FDA
Load — Error, G, Loading, MHM-loading, Rush (all accounted for except for Rush and G, but I’ll load from G next)
On Archiving
I’m also not sure of Matt’s normal methods for archiving and mass FTPing (to iArchives, FDA, ICDL, and others), but that’s the next area to research and document.
On QC
QC mainly has folders of items, and subfolders for the QC folks listed by name, and each with some have subfolders with “Error”, “OCR”, and “QC”. These are rarely overly full and these are like the named folders under Scan, so anyone wanting to manipulate items in the named subfolders should check with QC first.
On PreQC
Currently, Lourdes starts the PreQC app on the SAN at the end of the day. If Lourdes isn’t here, I normally start it, and Lourdes normally advises everyone if she’ll be out for more than a day or even if she leaves early so that we start it processing over night.
