DIGITAL LITERACY CONTEST

CASH PRIZES!  COMPETITION FOR THE MIND!  FREE FOOD!

20 questions in 30 minutes using the Internet to find your answers.  
Point are given for correct answers, incorrect answers are penalized, and highest score wins!!

1. Register for the contest here:  http://digitalliteracycontest.org/students/register

2. Bring your laptop on Thursday, Oct. 8 or use one of the 18 computers provided on a first come/first serve basis.

3. Particpate in the contest!

4. Partake – Free Food & Contest Discussion after the contest while the scores are tallied.

5. Winners announced at the end and prizes disbursed.  :D

FREE OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE WORKSHOP!

Members of the UF student group, Florida Free Culture, will hold a free workshop to show you how to use Open Source software programs (Audacity, Blender, Inkscape & The Gimp) to “remix” images, music, and videos licensed under Creative Commons to create new content.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop so that they can bookmark and/or download these free resources and use them again.   Light Refreshments will be served.

Now Open – Chinese Artifacts Exhibit

“Smathers Libraries Chinese Artifacts – Literary and Otherwise”

This beautiful exhibition of Chinese Artifacts opened on June 4th and will be on display in the Smathers Library Second Floor Gallery through July 30, 2009.

The centerpiece of this exhibit (depicted in the above image) is the gorgeous 13th century Head of Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, Protector of children.   Don’t miss seeing this beautiful work of art in person!

The exhibit is free and open to the public.  The gallery is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

Extended Hours – Library West & Marston Science Library

Library West and Marston Science Library are running extended hours from 8am – 4am.  

Extended Hours - Spring 2009

The expanded hours for the weeks prior to and during final exams are 8am – 4am and will run from Saturday, April 18 through 4am Thursday, April 30.   Regular hours will resume Friday, May 1.    More Information here.
