UF Librarians will be on hand at 1:30 before the talk to show sample materials from the Archie Carr Collections in the UF Manuscripts Collections

Come meet Frederick Rowe Davis (Associate Professor, Florida State University), author of
The Man who Saved Sea Turtles: Archie Carr and the Origins of Conservation Biology (Oxford University Press) and learn more about these incredible animals and of Prof. Archie Carr’s crusading efforts to protect them. More than any other individual, Carr was responsible for the international conservation of sea turtles through his efforts with the Caribbean Conservation Corporation. This illustrated talk provides a thorough introduction to Archie Carr and the turtles he strove to save from extinction. Talk and PowerPoint presentation begins at 2:30 p.m. in the museum classroom. Followed by book signing and refreshments.

The Art of Painting Florida’s History – an Afternoon with Jackson Walker

Sunday, April 19, 2009 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Pre-Talk Event:  Join us at 1:30 p.m.

UF Librarians will be on hand at 1:30 before the talk to show examples of sketches and artwork from the collections of the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History.

Talk and Reception 2:30 p.m.

Come meet Jackson Walker, artist-in-residence, Museum of Florida Art (DeLand). Jackson’s paintings of Florida history, embodied in his Legendary Florida collection, are featured at museums and historic buildings across the state.  He will present a PowerPoint show of his work and discuss how he recreates important episodes from Florida’s past.  Don’t miss this chance to visit with Florida’s award-winning master painter.  Talk begins at 2:30 p.m. in the museum class room.  Followed by reception and refreshments.

Free and Open to the Public. All talks will be held at the Florida Museum of Natural History in the museum classroom. Pre-program events, featuring materials from the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History and the Manuscripts Division, George A.
