Libraries announce supporter membership in BioMed Central

Posted By Barbara Hood

The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries announces a supporter membership in BioMed Central, a STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher using an open access publishing model. All peer-reviewed research articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication.

All UF authors are given a 15% discount on the article processing charge when they publish in a BioMed Central, Chemistry Central or PhysMath Central journal.

Beginning July 1, 2010 the University of Florida Open Access Publishing (UFOAP) Fund Pilot Project will help with processing fees to publish open access articles. Any UF faculty, post-doctoral researcher, staff or student author may request up to $3,000 per year to pay for article-processing fees. Articles must be peer-reviewed.

Publishing fund policies, procedures and application are available at http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/oa.

Open Access (OA) is free, permanent, web-based access to scholarly publications. OA is the principle that research should be readily available immediately after publication and to anyone with an Internet connection. It is improving the way scholarly information is shared.
