“One of the books I’ve read recently that I really liked was Tony Dungy’s book called “Quiet Strength.” My favorite would have to be “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. Both of these books really do a great job helping you keep your priorities in order. It is important for each person to sit down and be honest about making priorities and be true to themselves.”

The Giving Tree is a timeless classic of which I have learned two important lessons. First, giving can be a beautiful and satisfying act for those around you and, especially, those you love. The book also serves as a reminder to appreciate all of life’s blessings, no matter how big or small.

The George A. Smathers Libraries has joined other academic and research libraries across the country in using the American Library Association’s Campaign for America’s Libraries – “@ your library®.” The multi-year public education campaign is designed to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century. The goal for research and academic libraries is to promote awareness of their unique role and their contributions to society.
The American Library Association produced their first READ poster in 1985 featuring Bill Cosby with his favorite book. Since then, some of the world’s best-known actors, musicians, authors, sports figures, and library supporters have posed for posters, showing their support to the simple but powerful message — READ — on the prestigious posters.
The Smathers Libraries kicked off our campaign in the fall 2004 semester with an initial fourteen posters featuring University of Florida president Bernie Machen and 13 other UF “celebrities.”
Check back periodically to view the new posters featuring UF faculty, students, and administrators.
